More About Radius

What Radius does

Radius is a volunteer-run, ecumenical charity. We bring together people with a shared interest in religious drama, whether as church leaders or drama practitioners both amateur and professional.  Most, though not all, our members are Christians, but whatever their background they are united in the belief that a good play reflects divine creativity and should always be of the highest possible standard.

The Society does not mount its own productions but works with local groups who ask for assistance in putting on a performance or festival event.  We have built up a unique collection of play scripts suitable for performance by groups of different sizes and degrees of experience, and new plays commissioned for Radius are regularly added to our lists.  They are available in digital form to download from the shop, where some are also accompanied by brief outlines and/or introductory videos.

Radius offers help and advice for playwrights, with the opportunity to submit work for detailed comment by our reading panel of writers for the professional theatre. We also run occasional play competitions, most recently in collaboration with London’s Finborough Theatre. Radius runs a programme of practical workshops geared to all levels of experience. Topics in the past few years have included Voice, Acting and Film-making.

News, reviews and information about forthcoming events are shared through Radius’s regular magazine, Radius Performing, and through newsletters and a blog, as well as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube channels. We continue to encourage open and thoughtful exploration of the relationship between theatre and faith within contemporary culture.
